Lydia was very sorry for the little fairy and
couldn't bear to see her so upset.
"Oh, I wish I could help" she said.
Suddenly, Fairy Fleur stopped crying and
looked at Lydia.
"Lydia" she said, "can you sing?"
"Yes of course" said Lydia. "I love to sing."
Then Fairy Fleur explained that it is known
amongst all the fairies that the Tooth Fairy
especially loves to hear singing, and she was
sure that if a little girl with a sweet voice
would sing to the Tooth Fairy, it might make
her better. This would be especially nice, as
everybody loves the Tooth Fairy and there
had been much sadness in Fairyland at her
illness, so if she was made better, everyone
would be happy. Also the Queen might look
kindly upon Fairy Fleur and forgive her for
being such a forgetful, clumsy fairy!
Fairy Fleur went on to explain that if Lydia
held her hand tightly, they could both fly
back to Fairyland that night, and, after
singing to the Tooth Fairy, by magic she
